Roger Tangen wins at M&J!!

Yesterday, Roger Tangen won over $4,000 at the M&J's Dead Money Open. The final table became a series of chopped pots to pare down the heavy difference between 1st place and the rest. 4th took down $2,500, 3rd - $3,500, and 2nd and 1st was a chop for over $4,000.

The biggest hands came before the final table for Roger as with $2K/$4K blinds he ended up calling an all-in with ATs ... Curt Hoffart had KK. But with a Q on the flop, J on the turn, and a King on the river, Roger made his straight and moved up to nearly $50,000 with about 25 left to play. From there he coasted into the money, and after a deal was made with 17 left, to give the bubble boy his money back, the play was fast and furious. However, with 13 people left, Roger had $4K in the SB with only $16K back. The pot was raised to $24K in front of him and he called all-in for $20K total with KQc, he was up against Ad5c. The flop was AcTcX, the river brought the 2c giving him the nuts and more than doubling him up to $48K. The next hand, the UTG player went all-in for $20K and Roger called with KJo. The UTG player had 88 and it was a race until the flop came AQT, flopping Roger the nuts once again. The next hand, Roger limps in for $8K and Chad Ransom moved all-in from the small blind for $11K total. Both the BB and Roger called the extra $3K. An Ace came on the turn and Roger bet $15K, making the BB fold. Ransom showed A7h, but Roger had AJ, and with a J on the river moved his stack, in 3 consecutive hands to $102K from $20K and moved to the final table in good shape, as average would be $80K.

Congratulations to Roger Tangen!!

Recent wins from the group

Considering Roger's big win, I decided to post recent cashes by other players in our group in the cash tournaments around.

Also if you have any cashes at the local casino tournaments, or other tournaments around, let me know!!

Recently on the 8th of Januray Roger took 4th for $300, and Pat Anderson took 2nd for $750 at the $100 buy-in event (32 entrants) at the Fort Saloon in Abercrombie.

On Saturday January 21st, Pat Anderson took 3rd out of 54 at the Casselton NL tournamnet, I believe his cash was somewhere in the $500-$600 range.

Saturday's $40 Tournament Results

Yesterday, Chad Krump was able to take down the first $40 event of the new season. Bruce Maul took 2nd, followed by Jason Hubert in 3rd and Pat Anderson in 4th.

The final hand saw Chad raising the $3,000 big blind for his $1,500 small blind to $9,000 preflop. Chad had approximately $34K in chips to start the hand while Bruce had about $22K. Flop is Q98, Bruce checks and Chad moves all-in. After some very deliberate thought, Bruce calls all-in, but is highly disappointed when Chad flips over the nuts - JT. Bruce will need runner - runner to win the hand, but with a Q on the turn and a 6 on the river it is not to be and Chad takes it down.

The biggest hand of the night happened with 4-handed play, when Chad raised UTG from $1,200 to $4,000, after the action was folded around to Pat in the BB, he moved all-in for another $11,400, Chad called with A6 - he only had $11,500, so would be left with $100 if he lost to Pat's 55. The flop was KQJ, the turn was a 7, but the river brought the A to give Chad the pot and well over half the chips in play going into 3-handed action.

Next tournament is Feb 8th, a Wednesday. It is a $20 Razz event at Jim Tallakson's - start time is 7:00.

$20 Razz Tournament

Preliminarily, a $20 Razz Tournament is schedule for Wednesday, February 8th, at 7:00 p.m. at Jim Tallakson's house at 4293 39th Avenue South in Fargo.

Razz is a 7-card stud game in which you are trying to make the worst hand - disregarding straights and flushes. Aces are low. So therefore, the hand you want would be 5432A. Pairs are, of course bad, but you do only use 5 of the 7 cards to make your hand, so obviously 5432A45 is still the best hand.

Hands are ranked from the highest card, down. For example 8542A beats 9432A, and 8643A beats 8732A.

Just like 7-card stud, you are dealt 2 cards down, 1 card up on the first deal. Then 4 more deals of one card each, up, up, up, and down respectively.

Antes will again start at $25 with limits of $50/$100 and a starting chip count of $3,500.

If anybody has any questions about Razz, please post them here or e-mail me. Thank you.

Various events this year

We are adding some twists to events this year. We will be having a Stud H/L, Omaha H/L, PL Omaha, Razz, Pineapple, PL Hold Em, Limit Hold em, NL Hold Em with Rebuys, NL Hold Em with Bounties, and a NL Heads Up tournament. All of these events will be $20 this first year, and at the end of the year we will try gather information on which were the most popular and bring them back with a larger buy-in for next year.

***The Bounty Tournament will be a $50 + $10 buy-in. A $10 bounty will be on each head, the winner receiving the $10 bounty on his own head.

***The Rebuy Tournament will be a $10 buy-in, $5 rebuys, and $10 add-on Tournament.

1st Event of 2006

The first event of 2006 was held this past weekend.

Jason Kramer won the inaugraul Stud event. We had 11 people come out for the event, and it turned out very well. People had lots of play for their $20, as there was not a person eliminated until well into the 2nd hour of play.

Eric Kastner won the nightcap $20 NLHE event. Steve Erickson, who was yet NOT to cash in one of our events, took 2nd.

Next tournament is scheduled for Saturday, January 28th. It will be a mid-afternoon start time, around 3:00 or 4:00.

Would also like to get feedback to see if we should keep the payout structure the same as we normally do, or, structure it more towards a satellite payout for the Dead Money Open the next day, which is a $150 buy-in at the M&J in West Fargo. As of now, there will be no change and we will keep the structure as per normal.
