$60 Tournament Results

Hey, everybody!

It was a fabulous day for some poker. We had 20 entrants for our $60 tournament, and after all was said in done, newcomer Dennis Whalen took home first place! You may recognize the name if you have read this blog before, from his 2nd place finish in February at the VFW in Wahpeton.

The final table of 9 consisted of Rob Whalen, Roger Tangen, Corey Eslinger, Dennis Whalen, Jim Tallakson, Pat Anderson, Bjorn Heide, Jon Shilling, and Jason Kramer. First to go out was Pat Anderson as he went all-in with QQ and Roger Tangen called with AQ. With an A on the flop, Pat headed home (earlier he was all-in with KJ vs Kramer's AA and the turn and river brough a K and a J). Next to depart was Rob Whalen then Jim Tallakson was involved in a huge pot - about 30K or 30% of the chips with 7 left, when his J kicker fell short to Dennis's A quicker with top pair Q. Next out was Corey Eslinger when his AK failed to hit against Roger Tangen's TT. Jason Kramer was sent home by Roger Tangen as well in 5th when his TT was so close, yet so far behind Roger's JJ.

The big hand of the night came as Dennis raised UTG with AJ from 4,000 to 8,000. Bjorn folded, Jon called from the SB, and Roger went all-in for 30,000 total. Dennis called and Jon folded. Roger showed QQ and Dennis had AJ, but caught up in a hurry with an A on the flop. The pot worth 68,000 in chips, gave Dennis nearly 3/4 of the chips heading into 3 handed play. Not too long after Bjorn was gone followed by Jon giving Dennis the win.

Lucas Roach won the 5 person mini satellite for a seat at the Freeroll satellite in November. A side note to today's play is that there were 4 sets of quads dealt, 3 of them being quad A's and 1 being quad Q's.

The next tournament should be June 18th or 25th, same time same place for $40 this time.

Upcoming Events

Hello, everybody,

Just thought I'd make a quick post with some upcoming events for the coming year.

1.) Our Freeroll Satellite & Cash Satellites in November. Tenative schedule for November is our $40 November tournament on the 5th of November, and the satellites on the following Saturday, the 11th.

2.) Possible Heads-up Tournament running throughout the rest of the year. The tenative format calls for getting 8, 12, 16, etc. people to commit to the tournament, with seeds then being drawn and matches set based on player availability before monthly matches or possible other times, with the Championship Heads-up game being played the day of our Satellite Day in November.

3.) Our $80 4-point tournament on December 3rd or 10th. The date is slightly up in the air because of possible scheduling conflicts with local tournaments, including, but not limited to, a $100 Roughrider Poker Tour event in Jamestown on the 3rd.

4.) Dakota Poker Tour's $150 event at Playmaker's on the 19th of November.

5.) Heartland Poker Tour's $300 event in Flandreau, SD on the 26th of November.

Of course, schedules may need to be changed for other reasons, including Dakota Poker League events that may arise with players from the group competing in finals.

Freeroll Satellite Tournament

Hey everybody!

We are going to be giving away one seat to our $80 December Tournament!

Here's the details:

The first 5 people who bust out of our monthly tournaments (major NL Hold-em tournies), if they stick around, can play a super satellite to a 7 or 8 person satellite for the $80 tournament.

You can play multiple times, however, if you win multiple times, you will start with the same number of chips, it will reduce the entrants in the main satellite though.

The super satellite entrants will start with $5,000 in chips with 20 minute blinds and blinds starting at 100/200, 200/400, 400/800, 800/1600. So the tournament will last an hour max to determine who moves on.

The Main Satellite will be held in late November on a day when we will hold other cash satellites for the $80 event ($20 buy-in).

The satellites will start with $5,000 in chips with 100/200, 200/400, 300/600, 400/800, 500/1000, etc. blinds. The Main Satellite will pay only the winner to the $80 tournament, while the cash satellites will pay top 2 from an 8 person tournament.

Comments are welcome on this idea!
